Hunting the northern lights from the ocean is an amazing experience; sailing away from the coastline of Reykjavik and seeing the aurora borealis out on the North-Atlantic ocean with beautiful mountains and the city lights in the background is something you won’t forget. During the tour our expert guide will tell you all about the northern lights, the folklore and superstition, as well as explaining the underlying scientific facts that make this magical light show possible. The tour takes 2 – 3 hours, departing from Reykjavík´s old harbour; viewing the beautiful coastline of the capital and the city lights on the way out to search for the lights. In only 15-30 minutes we will be on a prime location for viewing the auroras. Included are warm overalls since it does get chilly in the winter and usually much of the time is spent outside gazing at the night sky.
We have a cozy and warm seating area inside the boat and we are dedicated to making the trip an enjoyable experience for everyone, therefore it is subject to the right weather conditions.
When the northern lights forecast looks good – but it is too windy to go out on sea – we will still take our customers out for a northern lights tour on a bus, and they will also get to go out on the boat as well next available day.
